Boyd Shelton Basnight of Wanchese, Sept. 21

Boyd Shelton Basnight, 89, of Wanchese, NC died Thursday, September 21, 2017, at his home. Born in Mashoes on January 31, 1928, he was the son of the late Zorado Tillett Basnight and Samuel C. Basnight.

Boyd served his country honorably in the United States Coast Guard. A retired tug boat engineer, he was also a commercial fisherman and excellent carpenter always using his talents for others. Boyd was a member of Wanchese Assembly of God.

An exceptional husband, father and brother, Boyd is survived by his wife, June Tillett Basnight; six daughters, Tammy Watkins (Dave), Christa Basnight (Doug), Rene Basnight (Shawn) all of Wanchese, Kay Daniels (David) of Kill Devil Hills, Anna Mae Potter of Engelhard, and Judy Johnson (Dean) of Wanchese; nine grandchildren, Sabra Basnight, Wanda Outland, Billy Dean Johnson, Jonathan Daniels, Kelly Shannon, Evie Regenstreif, Joel Daniels, Brandy Mann, and Charlotte Hester; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Floyd Basnight of Mashoes and S.C. Basnight (Jean) of Manteo.

Along with his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Ray Basnight.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Wanchese Assembly of God with Rev. Mark Hinson, Rev. Kenny Midgett, and Rev. David Daniels officiating. Burial will take place at Cudworth Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church.
