Ivey Sheldon “Frog” Johnson of Manteo, Sept. 4

Ivey Sheldon “Frog” Johnson, 47, of Manteo, NC died Monday, September 4, 2017. Born in Elizabeth City, NC, he was the son of Anna Beacham Johnson and Ivey J. Johnson of Manteo.

Sheldon was a big man with a big heart. His greatest joy and source of satisfaction was to do something for someone else. He shared his talents and Christian faith by serving others and initiated benefits when he saw someone in need.

Known for his award-winning barbecue, Sheldon owned and operated Frogman’s BBQ in Point Harbor.


Along with his parents, Frog is survived by two sons, Ivey Sheldon Johnson, Jr. and William Garrett Johnson; the apple of Poppa Shel’s eye, a granddaughter Autumn Lily Johnson; a sister, Laura J. Mooty (Bobby); two brothers, Johnathan D. Johnson (Ksusha) and Stephen P. Johnson (Rachel); maternal grandfather, Carl Beacham; and paternal grandmother, Carolyn Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Braunda Beacham; and paternal grandfather, Ivey Johnson.

A funeral will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Liberty Christian Fellowship with Pastor John Hobbs and Pastor Scott Hobbs officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo.
