Lower Currituck VFD ‘Hawgs and Dawgs’ postponed to Sept. 9

Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department’s “Hawgs and Dawgs” event has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 9 because inclement weather is in the forecast for this weekend.

“Hawgs and Dawgs” will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at Outer Banks Harley Davidson in Harbinger, which is hosting the event.

Organizers hope to recruit new volunteer firefighters and raise money for a new rescue tool.


Demonstrations of the new tool — a Genesis cordless cutter/spreader tool (commonly known as Jaws of Life) — will take place throughout the event, and for a donation, people can try it themselves.

A bounce house will be on site for the kids, and “Hot Dawgs,” chips, snow cones and beverages will be for sale, along with event-themed T-shirts. In addition, several raffles will be held, featuring gift cards from area businesses, gifts, event tickets and a Steel 3250 Watt Generator.

Students in the Currituck County High School Public Safety Training class will also be on hand for the event, to receive the donation of a tanker for the class from the Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department. Currituck County EMS will also be donating an ambulance. Both donations will give the class quite a bit more to put their hands on, for hands-on learning.
