Douglas Alan Bateman, 67, of Aydlett, NC died at his home on Sunday, August 27, 2017. A native and lifelong resident of Currituck County, he was born August 1, 1950, to the late Olive Forbes Bateman and Lloyd L. Bateman.

Douglas served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home he joined the NCDOT Ferry Division and ultimately retired as a ferry captain. Douglas was a member of American Legion Coinjock Post #288, a former member of Manteo Lodge #521 AF & AM and Sudan Shriner.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn “Tina” Bateman.

Douglas is survived by three daughters, Candace Miller of Virginia Beach, VA, Stephanie Griffith of Burlington, NC, and Bobbi Marlow of Rocky Mount, NC; six grandchildren, Georgia Mae Griffith, Patrick A. Cavilier, Nathan Miller, Abigail Miller, Kevin Parker, and Kaitlyn Parker; a great-grandchild, Heidi Smith; and a brother, Mitchell R. Bateman and wife, Connie of Wanchese, NC.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2017, at Laurel Memorial Gardens, Poplar Branch with Rev. Tom Meyer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the home, 756 Aydlett Road, Aydlett, NC.
