An out-of-state man in distress was pulled from the surf in Frisco Wednesday, but efforts to revive him on the beach were unsuccessful.

The National Park Service, Hatteras Island Rescue Squad, Dare County EMS and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office were called to the beach  on a report at 12:33 p.m. of CPR in progress.

The 43 year old, who has not been identified, had been pulled from the ocean by bystanders, and CPR was under way, according to a statement from the Park Service.

The National Weather Service had forecast a moderate risk of rip currents on all Outer Banks beaches on Wednesday, but it was not immediately clear if the incident was rip current related.

A cause of death has not been determined.
