As a former English major, I have a hard time understanding the math behind how they carve up the proceeds of various taxes in Dare County.

Years of low tax rates have put Southern Shores in a financial bind, several speakers acknowledged Tuesday, but now is not the time for a 4.25-cent increase to make up the difference. Other said they were willing to pay.
