Kill Devil Hills Police Department crime blotter for July

police carDavid Anthony Fantone, 37, of Kill Devil Hills has been arrested following the theft of a safe in a break-in at the La Mexicana convenience store July 9, according to Kill Devil Hills police.

He is also a suspect in break-ins of homes on Raymond Avenue and Atlantic Street.

Crimes under investigation

Burglary: On July 18, a rental home in the 1800 block of N. Virginia Dare Trail was entered through an unlocked door. A number of items were stolen, including an iPad, a Toshiba laptop computer, wallets, currency and credit cards.

Stolen vehicle: On July 10, a 1999 Dodge Caravan was stolen from the parking lot of the Outer Banks Inn. The vehicle was unlocked with the keys in it. The vehicle was later recovered in Nags Head. Information about the identity of the individual who took the vehicle is still being sought.

Theft of copper: On July 15, a residence under construction in the 1700 block of Bay Drive was entered and $100 worth of copper wiring was stolen. The HVAC system was also damaged during the theft.

Breaking and entering: On July 12, a resident of Oyster Point Condos discovered her home had been broken into through a window.

Larceny of firearm: On July 9, an unlocked 2008 Nissan Titan parked in the 100 block of E. Atlantic Street was broken into and a .380 Taurus semi-automatic handgun was stolen.

Larceny of motor scooter: On July 7, a black and blue Tao Tao Motor Scooter, 49 cc’s, was stolen from a residence in the 300 block of Ocean Acres Drive. The scooter is missing the right-hand mirror and has a sticker on the back that reads “Skateboarding is not a crime.”
