Driver hospitalized after car fire on U.S. 158

A car burst into flame Wednesday along U.S. 158 in central Currituck County, and the driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on the westbound side of U.S. 158 between Aydlett and Waterlily roads south of the J.P. Knapp Bridge in Coinjock.

What caused the fire has not been determined, and the driver was being treated at Albemarle Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The name of the driver was not immediately available.
