Overnight fire damages house in Duck; no one hurt

| January 18, 2013

Despite high winds, several Outer Banks fire departments worked to save a house in Duck that caught fire overnight Thursday and Friday.

One occupant was able to get out unharmed, said Duck Fire Chief Donna Black.

The fire on North Baum Trail near the Sanderling Inn caused some structural as well as smoke damage to the 6,000-square-foot house, Black said. The fire started outside.

A cause has not yet been determined.

Responding were fire departments from Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Colington, Corolla and lower Currituck.

Don’t know what other structures were close but with that NE wind blowing a gale Thursday night, it’s wonderful to hear the various fire departments were again able to keep the fire from spreading.
    Great job!
