R.I. man faces charges in Avon post office break-in

A Roanoke Island man was arrested after state police pulled his car over and found items from a break-in at the Avon Post Office.

The Highway Patrol trooper stopped the vehicle after the Dare County Sheriff’s office had distributed a description while investigating the post office break-in.

A statement from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office said that on Jan. 7 a deputy responding to a report of a suspicion vehicle under a house on Ocean View Drive heard glass breaking in the vicinity of the nearby post office.

Deputies went to the post office, found it had been broken into and gave a description of the car to other police agencies, the statement said.

Arrested after the traffic stop was Marquis Wade Charity, 33, of Jones Circle on Roanoke Island. He was charged with breaking and entering and felonious larceny. Postal inspectors are also reviewing the case.

Bond was set at $25,000.
