New storm could cause problems for N.C. 12
A coastal flood advisory has been posted Wednesday night through Thursday, as another nor’easter could bring more ocean overwash along the Outer Banks.
That could delay efforts to repair N.C. 12 at Mirlo Beach and shut down the four-wheel-drive-only access at the S-curves.
Flooding during last month’s pair of nor’easters lasted for about six hours on either side of high tide. High tides Thursday at Oregon Inlet are around 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The forecast calls for northeast winds of 30 to 35 miles mph with gusts to 40 mph and 7- to 9-foot surf.
The highway just north of Rodanthe was heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy.

Third World Island Nations that were cannibals & headhunters in the past are preparing better for the RISING OCEAN WATERS than North Carolina is.
HI Visitor says:
Repubs don’t even believe that ocean waters are rising! Their national candidates think the world is just 6,000 years old- that level of stupidity means that there will be no timely adaptation to rising sea level- filling sandbags along NC12 is a waste of time.
Ferry access only to HI will mean a drastic reduction in the number of visitors, time to adjust to the new reality, move out of HI now if you can still find some stray millionaire to buy your property.
Bill Aardappel says:
I’m thinking HI Visitor is a federal employee. Every thing he says wants to close HI.

ferry only access to Ocracoke Island is killing them right now
Bud says:
Oakracoke is always ‘ferry only.’

Ocracoke gets about 80% of their business from people coming down from the north, through Hatteras Island. Road closure at s turns is the reason so many of the businesses closed early over there and the rest have been struggling.
