Sewage spills behind Moyock shopping center
Eight thousand gallons of untreated sewage spilled earlier this week from a Currituck County-owned treatment facility at a Moyock shopping center.
The untreated wastewater discharged from a treatment unit at 104 Moyock Commons Dr., for approximated 24 hours starting around 8 a.m. Sunday, according to a statement from utilities superintendent William Nash.
“The untreated wastewater entered the storm water holding pond located northeast of the treatment facility, the broken coupling was repaired to prevent further discharge,” read the statement.

It went into a holding pond.
Not good.
What a bummer for the folks in the vicinity. There has got to be health risks.
I’d love to hear more details/follow-ups on this.
Charges filed?
Fines?
Why did it go for 24 hours?
Inquiring minds want to know.
