License plate office returning to Columbia

The state Division of Motor Vehicles has announced a new license plate agency will open Tuesday, Oct. 2, in downtown Columbia.

The agency, which is being operated by Tyrrell County as a contractor for the NCDMV, will be located at 106 South Water Street, and operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

License plate agencies offer vehicle registration services and title transactions, as well as vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags and duplicate registrations.

In February, the NCDMV closed a license plate agency operated by the Town of Columbia, due to “repeated disregard of standard operating procedures.”

The closest currently operating agencies are located in Plymouth and Manteo.
