Currituck murder trial set to get under way

Jandreau

Jury selection was scheduled to begin Monday for the trial of a woman accused of killing her husband in Currituck County over two years ago.

Lateisha Askew Jandreau, 40, is accused in the shooting death of 51-year-old Paul Jandreau, whose body was found July 3, 2010 in the garage of their home in the Brumsey Landing neighborhood.

An autopsy indicated he had been shot several times.

Lateisha Jandreau was found by deputies inside the home and has been in custody at the Currituck County Detention Center in lieu of $1 million bond.

See what people are saying:

Interesting the difference between the coverage of this case, involving a domestic violence murder with local people, and the Jackenheimer murder.

The Jandreau case is days from a trial and nothing more is presented than the bare bones facts. The Jackenheimer murder trial is probably a year away, and yet it rates a 1300 + word article full of delicious new scandal about that waste of perfectly good oxygen, Nate Summerfield.

The June 4th 2012 Voice article on Jandreau is similarly scant.

It’s curious because the details of the Jandreau murder are plenty interesting, at least in a headline grabbing way: She’s a bodybuilder! His body was found hidden in the garage! They met kickboxing!

So what are the differences? Well, it’s a Currituck case, and the Voice doesn’t generally cover Currituck issues as widely as ones in Dare. It’s involving a male victim of domestic violence. A national manhunt was not involved. Paul Jandreau doesn’t even rate a picture…maybe he’s not as charismatic as Lynn J. Dunno.

Just got under my skin for some reason.
