For the Sept. 17 launch of the State Employees’ Credit Union’s 3rd annual statewide holiday campaign –“SECU Supports the Troops”– the Manteo branch enlisted the help of Manteo Middle School students under the direction of art teacher Cindy Croswait.
Sixth through eighth grade art students decorated the branch collection box, made hanging star mobiles and decorative art work, and with donated balloons from Island Pharmacy, made SECU’s interior patriotically festive.
The annual drive reflects SECU’s “People Helping People” philosophy by giving members and anyone who wants to participate an opportunity to give back to and support North Carolina’s deployed military personnel.
For the project, SECUs are collecting posted “wish list” items for soldiers and will ship to them while on their tour of duty over the holidays. Collection boxes for these items are in every SECU branch for members and those in the community who wish to participate in this effort.
Cindy Croswait worked with Senior Financial Services Officer I, Missy McPherson (together in photo, from left) on this opportunity for students to make their own contributions to the campaign. Croswait took advantage of the “Support the Troops” theme by extending it to a research project on related topics including Patriot’s Day, and the impact deployment has on those in the military and their families.
For folks who prefer to give a monetary donation, counter canisters are in each branch to collect funds essential for shipping the supplies to the troops. “Wish list” items may be dropped off at all SECU locations through Oct. 31, 2012.
