Artists are being invited to enter this year’s Beach Book Cover Art competition, which centers on the theme “Discoveries of the Outer Banks.”

The annual exhibit and competition showcases work from area artists, and the winning piece will grace the cover of over 65,000 editions of the 2013 Beach Book Telephone Directory.

Entries will be on display at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery Oct. 5 to Oct. 31.

A prospectus for the competition is available at the DCAC Gallery, and for download at www.darearts.org.

Artists may deliver their artwork on Oct. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery, 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in Manteo. There is a $10 entry fee for DCAC members or $15 for non-members. The show officially opens Oct. 5 during the First Friday celebration in downtown Manteo.

Judges for this year’s competition will be members of the Beach Book staff. The public is invited to join Oct. 12 for the Artist’s Reception and Awards Oct. 12 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Winning entries will be revealed during the reception. The public will also have an opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award throughout exhibition, with the winner announced at the closing of the show.
