Building shot at in Colington; suspect on the loose

Bullet holes at TJ’s. (Missie Wroten Smith)
The shooting took place at TJ’s Convenience Store before it opened, according to Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie.
No one was injured. Deputies have not yet made an arrest in connection with the incident, although they may have identified a person of interest.
Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard says more information will be released as soon as it is available.
School buses that serve Colington Road resumed their routes around 7:50 a.m., but the affected bus routes were running about 40 minutes behind schedule.
Colington Road remains open to all traffic.

I love living in Colington – I grew up in a nice Northern Va. area… still had someone shoot out our back sliding glass door once. Had a cop pull a gun on me when I stepped outside another time during a manhunt. Bad stuff happens no matter where you live.

They caught the IDIOT? I did not hear that? Any info on who or where the IDIOT lives. Also, might be too much CSI but the shoots look like they were fired towards where the cashier would be standing. Think they were deliberatly targeting that area or just ramdom shooting?

I was there at 6:00am to get a biscuit and coffee and that was delayed too! Must have been at least a quarter million dollars worth of various types of police vehicles on the scene, crime sniffing dogs, camera’s, fish cops in bullet proof vest and the tv peeps too! The sun was coming up, the smell of bacon on the frier and somebody wants to say we live in a “seedy” place,,,,,,,well there are quite a few cities in this country that don’t even consider it newsworthy to talk about people getting shot; because it happens so much. An idiot that does stupid stunts like this will be caught and I just hope the courts do the rest.

Shame on you TierdOfit! I love this so called “seedy” place I live in! I have neighbors who look out for each other and our children. We have always helped each other in times of need. Through hurricanes and nor’easters we have shared generators and picked up the pieces as a community. I know the sheriffs by name and can almost set my watch by the time they are patrolling my street. I’m happy you are leaving too,please don’t let the gate hit you on your way out!

Yes Native son the fish cops were there and at all of the bus stops with the guns they carry making damned sure not a hair on any kids head was disturbed over the idiot on the loose. I was very impressed at how the law enforcement here responded!

They cuffed and took an innocent young man to jail for this crime. I know this for a fact since I bailed him out.

Rosie: There is a conflict in your post. If you “bailed” him out that implies a sequence of events have begun which MAY result in a conviction. An “innocent” person would not require bail but a suspect or formally charged person would. And another thing. Colington is in fact a pretty seedie part of the OBX but no more than the overall OBX. You scratch the surface and get behind the face the Chamber wants the tourist to see and you have a pretty “seedie place”. BUT I guess it’s no more seedie than most places in the US. Great people live there, good people live there, drug dealers, boozers, wife beaters, and floozies plus your above average number of skate boarding pre teen and teenaged delinquents, future dropouts and welfare cases.
