Remembering those who died on Sept. 11, 2001
The Voice | September 11, 2012

On the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, white doves, the symbols of peace, were released at the Wright Brothers National Memorial Tuesday.
Thirty-two doves were also released in Buxton on Hatteras Island.
Dove release companies and hobbyists around the country released doves in a simultaneous tribute to those who lost their lives in the attacks. The effort was called White Wings over America.

What ekim said it all.

Hmmm, so the Voice puts up a short, thoughtful piece about remembering 9/11, including a video of the white dove release. Very nice and tasteful.
Then, as inevitable as GRAVITY, ekim comes along writing in occasional ALL CAPS about his buddies and their WAR STORIES that he can’t share with us because he’ll be CENSORED by the Voice staff. Tell you what ekim, go ahead and try sharing it with us. I’ve got quite a few friends in the military as well. I’d love to swap stories. Just keep the tone civil and relevant to the parent article and I’m sure this bastion of consipiracy-holding, liberal media will keep it up for awhile.
Nags head bob – no idea what you mean by “What ekim said it all” Doesn’t make any sense Bob-O. Try again.
EKIM says:
BOZO JAMES!!! While we released white doves! ( for the innocent slaughterd by we know WHO!!!) They KILLED !! An AMERICAN AMBASADOR!!!! THE SAME DAY!! WAKE THE #*!^ UP!!

James here. I’m wide &(%$#ing awake and I read the news. Both the events you speak of truly are tragedies – the 9/11 attacks and what’s been going on at our embassies in the Middle East. You see though, internet news sources like the Voice open up their stories to comments hoping that a civil discourse can take place amongst readers. Not name calling and belligerent ramblings. Let’s try it out!
After 9/11 we invaded Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban regime for harboring the 9/11 Al Qaeda terrorists and their training facilities. Great. However, instead of simply kicking the Taliban out of their poor excuse of a central government and killing as many of the Al Qaeda rats as we could quickly do . . . we dug in for the long haul. And we’re still there. My Army Ranger buddy said it was terrible how our American lives and money are being thrown away there.
How about Iraq? After it was clear we weren’t finding any Weapons of Mass Destruction after our invasion based on that pretense, I remember President Bush telling us that instead, it was all about overthrowing Saddam so that democracy could spread throughout the Middle East. The problem was that Bush and his neoconservative advisers didn’t do their homework. We opened that country to an intense civil war with our troops caught in the middle. So more lives and money lost. After the Iraqis killed each other in the 10′s of thousands and rearranged their neighborhoods/government along more Shia/Sunni lines, the bombings and terrorism have slowed down a bit.
And this spread of democracy that George Bush promised us has happened! It was called the Arab Spring. The problem is that democracy in the middle east might not work in America’s favor. There are a lot of young, ignorant, pissed off people in those countries with no jobs, future, or life they can be proud of. So they turn their hatred towards America, because everyone hates a winner. I know, I’m a Tarheel.
What’s really crazy is we’re still giving huge amounts of money to Israel, Egypt, the new Libyan government, etc. We’ve still got our troops trying to figure out their mess, trying to help them in spite of themselves. What do you do? Leave them alone, so the crazies can take over again, kick the girls out of school, and help Al Qaeda make a comeback? Or get our hands dirty, over and over again, trying to play the world’s policeman, thowing lives and money away, when we’re struggling here at home?
