Grand jury returns indictment against Summerfield

A Dare County grand jury has issued an indictment against an Ohio man accused of killing his former girlfriend on Hatteras Island.

Nathan Summerfield, arrested last month near in Ohio after a five-week manhunt, was indicted Monday on a charge of first-degree murder, and remains in the Dare County Detention Center without bond.

He is accused of strangling and stabbing to death Lynn Jackenheimer while the pair were vacationing the week of July 4 in Salvo.

Her body was found at the end of a cul-de-sac on July 10 in Frisco.

Dare County Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard said in an e-mail Monday that no future dates have been set in the case.
