Missing man found dead in ocean off Nags Head

A Pennsylvania man who had been reported missing was pulled from the ocean off Nags Head Tuesday after a search of more than two and half hours that included helicopters from Dare County and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Robert Forrest, 46, of Exton was declared dead after being taken to The Outer Banks Hospital by Nags Head safety personnel.

Family members reported Forrest as missing while swimming off the 5200 block of S. Virginia Dare Trail at about 11:45 a.m., according to a statement from the Town of Nags Head.

At about 2:30 p.m. Forrest was pulled from the ocean by town safety personnel near Danube Street in the 4400 block of Virginia Dare Trail.

It has not been determined if the death was a drowning, the statement said.

Dare MedFlight and a Coast Guard helicopter participated in the search. Helping town public safety personnel, were the Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department, Dare County Emergency Medical Services, Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue, the National Park Service and the Coast Guard.
