Gardens to provide inspiration for colored pencil art
There will be two workshops, one for adults Sept. 13 and 14 and another one just for children Sept. 15.
Her adult workshop, “Drawing in Color,” will be held Sept. 13 and 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. Participants will start with a garden tour, searching for plant specimens as tools to learn about color matching inspired by the natural world.
All art supplies are included. There will be a $10 art supply fee for each participant. Price for the two-day workshop for adult garden Members is $80 per adult; Non-member price is $90.
Children age 6 to 12 can join Evans Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Young artists will learn about layering, using solvents and other color pencil techniques as they create a sketch inspired by a seasonal plant.
Art supplies are included. The Gardens recommends bringing a packed snack. Garden Members enjoy a reduced workshop price, $40 per child for members and $45 per child for non-members.
Lorraine Evans, a passionate teacher, is comfortable teaching basic and advanced artists. She is a member of the Color Pencil Society of America and the American Society of Botanical Artists. From her hometown of Bethlehem, CT she teaches lessons and workshops in drawing fundamentals, portraits, color pencil and watercolor to groups and private students.
“I get my inspiration from nature. I love botanical drawing, and working in color pencil, graphite, and watercolor,” explains Evans. “I have discovered and fallen in love with drawing and realism.”
She enjoys botanical illustration and what can be achieved with the use of colored pencils. Evans became a certified botanical illustrator through a program affiliated with the New York Botanical Garden.
