Dare County Arts Council debuts two new exhibitions this month with watercolors by Catherine Hillis and mixed media by Meg Rubino. Their works will be on display at the DCAC Courthouse Gallery through August.

Catherine Hillis has painted all her life, winning awards and honors at competitive regional and national shows.

Hillis primarily paints in water media, including busy street scenes, intricate floral and her favorite, the historic sites near her home on the Blue Ridge in Virginia.

She frequently paints abroad, most recently in Europe and Asia and has been invited to teach in May 2011 at “Il’ Chiostro” in Tuscany, Italy.

Meg Rubino is a painter and mixed-media artist from Kitty Hawk. She graduated from Bucknell University and East Carolina University in Elementary Education and Art Education. Since becoming a full-time resident of Dare County in 2003, her work has embodied the natural beauty of the Outer Banks.

She is inspired by the little joys of daily life. Most of her subject matters are from travels along the coast and in the mountains of North Carolina.

Her works have been displayed in galleries from Corolla to Ocracoke.

A lively opening reception took place during the First Friday celebration, August 3. The show will be on display until Sept. 5.  Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
