Southern Shores Police say the Maryland woman missing for much of Friday has been located, and that she is okay.
A brief statement said 43-year-old Elzbieta “Ella” Giryn had been located at 9:45 p.m.
Scanner traffic from police indicated she was located not far from where she had last been seen 12 hours earlier, however the statement said she was found in Duck.

Dave Shrader says:
This was a significant combined effort of Fire, Police, EMS and Lifeguard services from Duck, Southern Shores, Corolla, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Colington, Roanoke Island, Mann’s Harbor, Stumpy Point, The Dare County Fire Marshal, Surf Rescue, Kitty Hawk Ocean Rescue, Emergency Management, Dare MedFlight, the PD’s from Southern Shores, Duck, Nags Head,Dare Central Communications (Sheriff), a search dog team from Edenton and others. The Town Managers and staff provided leadership and support.
State, national and other resources were called in, in case this event extended beyond the immediate area.
Citizen cooperation was essential and the media, including the OBXVoice and Wavy News 10 were essential in getting the word out. Thanks to everyone without whom a successful operation would have been less likely. This was a shining example of Community coming together against fairly long odds to make a success.
The missing person was returned to her family a little worse for the wear, but healthy and happy to be back.
Over 100 people came together to make this happen and they make me proud to live amongst them.

We are so impressed and greatful!!!:)))
Thank you to all the wonderful people in the OBX who brought my mentally challenged(on meds) and diabetic sister back. The whole family was exteremly anxious since she got lost for almost 11 hours without:money, phone, hat, sunblocker, medications, on the 100 F day and got really confused and dehydrated. After several hours and especially when it got dark we were panicking thinking that she got a heat stroke and hypoglycemia and is laying somewhere in the wood or may be got kidnapped.
I will quote Mr.Shrader again these people make me proud , they are professionals, they are serious about their jobs and make us feel safe there. We loved the OBX and we will be coming back.
