The names have been released of two men killed in a Monday afternoon crash in Tyrrell County involving a car and a tractor trailer carrying jet fuel.

Kevin Grubbs, 31, and  Calvin Perkins, 36 year old, both of Elizabeth City, died in the wreck on N.C. 94 between South Riders Creek and Levels Road, south of Columbia.

The two were backseat passengers of a car driven by Kelby Grubbs, who has been charged with two counts of death by motor vehicle, and is the brother of one of the men killed.

The Highway Patrol says he fell asleep at the wheel, ran off the road and over-corrected, and the car swerved broadside into the path of the tractor-trailer.

Another passenger in the car and the driver of the truck suffered injuries but are out of the hospital.

The road was closed for several hours as crews cleaned up the leaking jet fuel, and one home nearby had to be evacuated for a short time.
