Do pedestrians that unsafely run across highways realize that the person that eventually hits them will be haunted for life. God forbid an unlucky driver had a glass of wine with their dinner and they get hauled off to jail because someone else’s stupidity.
Jessicia says:
I see people all the time walking down 158 most of them are far enough from the road, but not all of them. Yesterday I was driving and 3 people were walking side by side instead of behind each other which put one of them in the right hand lane so everyone had to move over, oh & BTW the person walking in the right hand lane was waving drivers to move over…. Sorry for the loss but people need to realize how unsafe it is especially at night
Katie says:
Exactly Tank! I can’t tell you how many times in the last week I’ve had people just walk out onto the bypass without even looking at the cars that are coming down the road after them. I laid on the horn to have someone give me the hand…. Use the lights and crosswalks people….thats all I ask!

I never thought that tourist could get an worse with their driving when they crossed that bridge. But I was wrong…I dared to venture up the beach around 9pm; and it was much, much, worse than I thought. I was never more ready to be back on Roanoke Island than I was that night. Cars were swerving in and out of lanes, just so they could whip into a restaurant at the last moment without even signaling. My heart goes out to all the families of the souls lost this week, and the ones that we will lose; all due to reckless driving.
Dawn says:
I too get frustrated with these tourists who carelessly run out in on the road but this 28 yr old girl in Powels Point was probably just some poor local girl walking home in the evening and some idiot didn’t see her walking on the side of the road and clipped her, or in this case actually killed her. I wish people would try and be a little more sensitive (Tank) when making comments that could hurt family members. All the details haven’t been released and until then I personally think some judgement should be put aside.

Folks, I hate to tell you but if you look at who is hitting who you’ll more than likey to find out it’s locals hitting locals
Beckie B says:
I hate to say this, but I am just waiting for this to happen on Old Oregon Inlet Rd. These people are crazy down here. I have lived here for 9 years and it gets worse every year. Bikers and runners will not use the multi-use bike path, but use the narrow road instead and drivers will not drive the speed limit. This road is hardly ever policed.
KHer says:
There’s a reason we’re taught to walk facing the traffic, by the way. If you’re walking in the same direction as the traffic you can’t see what’s coming at you.
Get off the road and walk on the left side of the road!
And if you’re on a bicycle, you are to ride with the traffic, not against.
ekim says:
Iam sure all the people killed in the last few weeks WERE fine folk , BUT screwing around on 158 is just foolish (the words I really wont to use are to harsh for the voice)for walking or riding the price is your life! A little more common sense PLEASE!!
MrBC says:
Sorry to interrupt the conversation, but a girl died this night and it may not have been her fault. Myself and a female nurse stopped to help this poor girl but we couldn’t save her. I don’t know who she is or who hit her but I would at least like to find out who she is. I left after the crew covered her(with the permission of the troopers) and there was enough going on for me to stay in the way.

I know, right… i witness it all the time.
the phrase, “they left their brain back home” rings true.
unbelievable.
Tank says:
@Dawn sorry if you find my comments insensitive but it’s much easier for pedestrians to make better decisions then it is for a person maneuvering a vehicle to make a split second maneuver to avoid a pedestrian. Particularly during heavy traffic or low light. I drive around a thousand miles a week and see this stuff often. I don’t want to live my life with the image of a dead person laying by my truck. I also wouldn’t want to have to imagine the loss the family of the pedestrian would experiance.

soooo its now the 2nd, does anyone know who she was?
