Troopers seek more help in fatal Moyock hit-and-run
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is still seeking information on who was responsible for the death early Saturday of a man walking alongside a narrow road in northern Currituck County.
Jacob Bezik, 20, of Moyock died when he was struck by an unknown vehicle on Puddin Ridge Road in Moyock.
“We’ve tracked down a number of tips given to us, but so far have come up with nothing,” said Sgt. J.C. Wilson.
“Anytime people have spotted a vehicle with damage in the area, they have been contacting us, and we want them to continue doing that,” Wilson said. “Any tidbit of information helps.”
Citizens can call the Highway Patrol directly by dialing *HP on their cell phone.
Several people who last saw Bezik alive are scheduled to be interviewed, but troopers were waiting until after Thursday’s funeral.
“He decided to walk to his father’s house nearby after waking up that morning following a party the night before,” Wilson said. “He sent a text message to friends who were still sleeping to let them know where he was.”
The exact time of the hit-and-run is unknown, but the Highway Patrol has estimated it happened June 18 between 4:30 and 5:15 a.m., based on when the text was sent and when his body was discovered.
“We are waiting on results of testing from trace evidence we sent to the SBI Crime Lab,” Wilson said. “Those results should be back late next week.”
