Inmate death was an apparent suicide

An inmate found unresponsive in his cell at the Dare County Detention Center Saturday was pronounced dead after Dare County EMS was called.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation, which is standard procedure, according to the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.

His death is being treated as an apparent suicide, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
