Final House vote is Thursday on Britthaven bill

| June 14, 2012

The state House has scheduled a final vote Thursday on a bill to allow a 40-year lease and other concessions between Nags Head and the operators of Dare County’s only skilled nursing facility.

The measure would allow a long-term lease, part of a deal between the town and operators of Colony Ridge, formerly known as Britthaven, that kept the nursing home open and spurred much needed renovations.

Town officials were limited to a 10-year lease by state law. If the legislation passes, the town could enter into two 15-year lease extensions and maintain possession of the facility’s certificate of need.

Town commissioners passed a resolution last week endorsing the legislation.

The proposal was given final approval Monday night on a voice vote by the Senate.
