Lost Colony alum takes a Tony

Steve Kazee, a former cast member of The Lost Colony, won a Tony Award Sunday for best performance by a leading actor in a musical.

It was the first Tony for the star of the Broadway musical Once, which won eight Tony Awards, including best musical.

Kazee was a member of The Lost Colony choir in 1997 and returned in 2001 to play John Borden, a role he held for three seasons.

In addition to his award-winning performance in Once, Kazee has appeared in the Broadway revivals of To Be or Nor To Be, 110 in the Shade, Seascape and the new musical Spamalot, according to a press release from The Lost Colony.

He appeared in the Kennedy Center production of The Subject was Roses, for which he received a Helen Hayes Award nomination.
