High wind, cold temperatures and possible some snow are headed our way tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch from 7 p.m. Saturday through Sunday morning. A rise of 1 to 2 feet in the sounds could cause minor flooding in areas exposed to northwest winds. There is also a wind advisory for gusts up 45 mph.

A gale warning covers the sounds and the Atlantic.

A low pressure system that originated in the Gulf states moved across northeastern North Carolina Friday night, bringing some heavy rain.

By Saturday night, the wind will be picking up and temperatures will drop to around 29. The weather service calls for a 50 percent chance of snow and winds of 25 to 32 mph and higher gusts. Accumulation is not expected to be more than a half an inch.

Sunday will see sunshine and stiff northwest winds gusting to 45 mph before beginning to subside overnight.

A slow warmup is expected as the week progresses.
