An investigation into two house fires in Waves last week will include a specially trained dog, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
The dog trained in fire investigation was being taken Friday to the sites of the fires, which broke out last week.
A statement from Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard said it is not yet known what caused the two fires or if they were connected.
The first one was reported Feb. 2 on Sea Vista Drive at about 11:23 p.m. Local departments put out the fire, which caused extensive damage. On Feb. 9 at about 1 am., another fire was reported on Midgett Way. Local fire departments responded, but the house was destroyed.

The first fire was late on Sunday, Feb 5. Both houses are only a stone’s throw from one another, about 50 yards or so. Both blazes were insane, and it’s fortunate that adjacent buildings weren’t destroyed, and responding volunteer firefighters weren’t hurt.
The area has been plagued with numerous break ins as well.
