Update: Ophelia’s a hurricane, but well offshore
The storm should be far enough offshore that seas will not be as high as computer modeling had earlier suggested. The forecast now calls for seas of about 3 feet over the weekend.
Ophelia almost disappeared from satellite view but began to gather some steam just northeast of the Leeward Islands.
On Friday, top winds were 115 mph as the storm moved north-northwest at 12 mph.
Behind Ophelia is Tropical Storm Philippe, which has been wandering around the central Atlantic. It is not expected to strengthen significantly and is likely to turn out to sea.
