Pageant is good for laughs, even better for Relay
If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth even more.
Saturday night, the Outer Banks Relay for Life held the “Mr. Relay Womanless Beauty Pageant” at Duck Woods County Club. The event incorporated all of the elements of a proper pageant, including the mandatory talent section.
The relay’s “Brindley Beach Team,” from Brindley Beach Vacation and Sales sponsored the event and organized the activities, including the lovely “ladies.”
We won’t spoil the surprise by printing the names of all who participated, but we will note that Max Radio of the Carolina’s sales manager, Bob Davis, himself a cancer survivor, kicks off the video. We believe he needs some work on his entrance for next year’s event. We bet some of you will figure out the men behind the makeup and wigs!
And most important, the event raised over $17,000 for the local Relay.
Times continue to be tough on the Outer Banks, but the spirit of giving and having fun in the face of rough times never ceases to amaze.
Something about living on these barrier islands contributes to a sense of unity and an indomitable spirit to keep on keeping on!

OBX Lauren says:
What an absolute great time! I was most impressed that all of the contestants took their roles to heart and really put on a good show. Hopefully this will be a yearly event!
A Grateful OBXer says:
A special thanks to all who participated, especially for the smiles I couldn’t hold back while watching this video.
I also cried as I watched, as I lost my mother to cancer this same Sunday night. But I am so grateful – she survived 2 out of 3 battles with cancer. Then, in her final run, the treatments gave her years of good enough health to enjoy with her family. This was only because of the advances made possible by this fundraising.
So thanks to all the womanless men who stood up there! Thanks for making me smile – and know I also feel a personal debt of gratitude to each of you, as the advances in cancer research you funded Sunday night…was what gave me me years more to share with my beloved mother.
