A state ferry and a 35-foot motor yacht collided in the Ocracoke channel Saturday night, but there were no serious injuries, the Coast Guard reported.

A crew member aboard the Carteret, which runs from Cedar Island to Ocracoke, called the Coast Guard at 8:30 p.m. to report the collision.

In addition to the crew, eight passengers and one car were aboard the ferry. The yacht, Tony C, had two crew members and two dogs on board, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

A 25-foot Coast Guard boat and crew from the Ocracoke took the Tony C’s crew members and the dogs to the Ocracoke station and the two people were found to have no serious injuries.

A 47-foot Coast Guard boat towed the yacht to shallower water. There was no major damage to the ferry. The yacht had a hole slightly above the waterline.

The collision is under investigation.
