Unemployment inches downward in Dare
The unemployment rate dropped slightly in Dare County during July, standing at 6.3 percent.
That is down from the 6.9 percent reported in June, but neither of those numbers are adjusted for seasonal fluctuations.
Based on the raw numbers, Currituck , Hyde and Dare had the lowest unemployment rates of North Carolina’s 100 counties, the state Employment Security Commission reported Friday.
Currituck’s rate in July was 4.5 percent, and Hyde’s was 6 percent. The state unemployment rate in July was 9.9 percent.
The unemployment rate in June for Dare County after seasonal adjustments was 10.1 percent, The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce reported. The chamber cited statistics from the East Carolina University Bureau of Business Research.
Unemployment numbers do not take into account independent contractors who are out of work or underemployed or people who have given up looking.
The commission says the labor force in Dare County is 25,357 and 1,589 people are out of work.
