Body of missing swimmer is recovered
The Island Free Press reports that the body of a 19-year-old man from Gloucester, Va., was recovered about 3 p.m. Thursday on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore beach near Ramp 4 on Bodie Island.
The Coast Guard had suspended the search Wednesday for a Brian Mouring, who was reported missing after swimming near the Oregon Inlet campground.
Brian Mouring was reporting missing at 10 a.m., according to a Coast Guard statement. The search lasted nine hours. The Coast Guard initially said he was from Williamsburg, but The Virginian-Pilot reported he was from Gloucester, Va.
An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from the Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City, along with two boat crews from Oregon Inlet were still looking Wednesday afternoon.
Personnel from Nags Head Fire and Rescue, Nags Head Ocean Rescue and North Carolina Fish and Game, as well as North Carolina park rangers were also on scene.
