| May 11, 2010

J. Peter Rascoe, the manager of Chowan County, will become Southern Shores’ new town manager on June 9.

Rascoe has worked for Chowan County since 1999. When he took over as the manager two years ago, his first task was to dig Chowan out of a major budget crisis that had seen almost all of the county’s reserves spent down to keep the government going.

Rascoe’s appointment was announced by the town Wednesday. He succeeds Charles Reed.

A lawyer who once worked in the state attorney general’s office and has had a private law practice, Rascoe is also a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard reserves.

Rascoe earned a bachelor of arts degree from North Carolina State University and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina.

He is on the the UNC Coastal Studies Institute Foundation Board and is a trustee on the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund Board.
