Fire Chief Butch Osborne retired Thursday after eight years with the town of Nags Head.

Osborne came to Nags Head after retiring as chief of the Portsmouth, Va., fire department.

“Butch has served Nags Head with exceptional loyalty,” Nags Head Town Manager Cliff Ogburn said in a statement. “The citizens, employees and Board of Commissioners have truly benefited from his knowledge and experience
during his time here. We wish him well.”

During his tenure, Osborne managed construction of a new fire station in South Nags Head and developed the town’s comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan.

Kevin Zorc, Nags Head’s deputy fire chief and fire marshal, has been named interim chief.

I hope the town will name Kevin to be their new Chief… He certainly is qualified and has served the Town of Nags Head faithfully for many years.
