Former Commissioner Bobby Rollason dies

Former Kill Devil Hills Commissioner Robert E. “Bobby” Rollason Jr. died Feb. 19 after a long illness.

A statement from the town said he died at 6:30 p.m.

Rollason, who was in the real estate business, was appointed to the town Board of Commissioners in 1977. He served two terms from 1977 to 1981 and was elected again from in 1983 until 1987. He was also mayor pro tem.

He was a member of several town panels and was assistant chief of the volunteer fire department for 20 years. He was also a member of Manteo Masonic Lodge 521 A.F. & A.M. and the Shriners.

A memorial service with Masonic Rites is at 11 a.m. today at Son Rise Church of Christ, 1311 Goldie Street, Kill Devil Hills.
